Ryan J. Rodriquez was in his senior year of high school when he was recruited into the Army. It was another year before he went to bootcamp, because he was still in school. He chose to enlist on September 15, 2009, because he knew he had nothing planned after he graduated high school and his motivation for remaining in the military is guaranteed paychecks, traveling, and experiences in new things. Ryan also figured it would be good for future jobs, or careers that he may be interested in after his contract is up. Rodriquez has been in the Army since August 4, 2010, and will be in until March 3, 2014.

Boot Camp was a source of pride for Ryan.  Especially, doing all of that work, and making you feel accomplished, after enduring all of that training. Boot Camp grants you many things: Combat Training, Friends, Discipline, and Team Work. “The toughest part of Boot Camp was waking up and knowing I was still there in basic training,” says Ryan. “It has taught me to grow up.” Now that Ryan is out of training, he feels like he lives a normal life. He has his own place, shows up to work at a motor pool in uniform and works until 5 everyday. He gets to talk with family whenever he wants. He has one child, which is his daughter. It’s very difficult for him being away from his family. None of his family members are in the military.

Rodriquez’s job in the Army is a 91B1P wheeled vehicle mechanic/paratrooper. He chose this job, because being a mechanic is what he likes to do.  He makes $1,600 a month. Ryan operates all military vehicles, too many to list. The reason he operates so many is because he is a mechanic in the Army. “Military life differs from Boot Camp because it’s much more relaxing. In Boot Camp they are strict. Everything must be perfect. But in the real Army it's just a job. Its hard to explain,” said Ryan. He has no fears. Ryan is there to defend his country, he takes pride in what he does. So far Ryan has been station in Ft Jackson, South Carolina (Boot Camp & AIT), Fort Benning, Georgia (Air Borne) and he is currently stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. To me, Ryan has done so much to help this country, and I thank him for all the he has done, so far.
